Geological history of the island of Rab

On Wednesday, 30th of September in the gallery of Rector's Palace in Rab an exhibition "The Island of Rab - one hundred million years of geological history" starts jointly organized by the Museum of Natural History of Rijeka and the City of Rab.
The author of this interesting exhibition is Koraljka Klepac and the whole project is the result of her geological and paleontological studies on Rab. The exhibition consists of photographs of the island of Rab with rocks of different age, fossil remains of various organisms, limestone over 100 million years old, a variety of snails and shells over 35 million years.
The exhibition is extremely interesting and educational and financial support for the entire project comes from the town of Rab and the Croatian Ministry of Culture.

French tourists slept for free

One narrow street in Rab hosted an arts exhibition in the open. A small group of French tourists was walking through the crowd and asking around for cheap accommodation, possibly a hostel. As we all unfortunately know, Rab has no hostel, but luckily mister Zvonko Bakota was around and helped them to get in touch with the mayor of Rab Zdenko Antesic. He wasted no time to arrange accommodation in the facilities of FC Rab. Tourists were more than delighted with this unique gesture, which made their stay in Croatia even more pleasant.

Charms of traditional fishing

Josko Stokic is a Medieval fisherman used to the hard life and poverty. A long time ago he was a sailor on a ship that belonged to an old noble family from Rab and he sailed all over the Mediterranean. He was injured after a heavy storm and had to return to his island where he founded a fishing company. They sold most of their fish to Venice and they ate the rest themselves. This is of course only a story told by one of the members from "Dolin" fishing society, but there where many more stories about Medieval fishing and way of life similar to this one. Tourists were simply delighted and couldn't resist the smell of fresh fish and other traditional meals of Rab. This was all the result of cooperation between associations "Komin", "Dolin", "Tunera" and "Skraparica", who made sure that all guests enjoyed a unique manifestation full of traditional meals and numerous other scenes from the Medieval times. Rab wore the title of "Felix" a long time ago when it was called "Felix Arba", but although it does not wear this title today, Rab is still an island of happiness, satisfaction and prosperity.

Visit the Rab Summer festival!

Rab Summer festival will be held on August 6th and 7th at the town stadium in Rab, and all visitors will be able to enjoy in performances by many music stars.
The biggest attraction of the festival is Teresa Garcia Catrurla, one of the stars from the original set-up of Buena Vista Social Club. First day of the festival is on Thursday, August 6th, and it will be especially appealing to fans of modern electronic music and dancing, with shows by DJ Paul Lomax, DJ Fresh Jay and DJ Luca Montecchi. The second day will be marked with a show by Croatian Latino band Cubismo and the above mentioned famous Cuban artist. Apart from them, there will also be concerts by Chico Castillo and famous Croatian singers Nina Badric and Martina Vrbos.
Organizer of the Rab Summer festival is rap musician Marko Lasic Nered, who also announced that on the opening day of the festival there will be a big Tequila Sunrise cocktail weighting over a ton! The price for the first day is 135 kunas, 170 kunas for the second day and 230 kunas for both days.

Since the island of Rab is in a good position, guests are also interested in visiting some of the nearby national parks and other islands of the Kvarner archipelago. Citizens of Vukovar coming to Rab

Company Imperial from Rab, owner of a popular hotel of the same name, decided to make a great gesture for the city of Vukovar. They secured a seven day vacation for five families with children! Mayor of Vukovar Zeljko Sabo expressed great gratitude and stressed how much this means for his town in this period of crisis, although Vukovar, a city that has suffered terrible devastation during the war, has spent the past ten years in a difficult crisis. When the Government decided to take ten million from people of Vukovar this year, it is nice to know that someone is willing to give something too!

Popularity of Rab klapas

The last few years there has been a great popularization of folk klapa music in our Kvarner region, including the island of Rab.
Rab has a long tradition of klapa singing of almost 50 years, but the last few years there has been a new popularization of this kind of music. This resulted in increasing popularity of many Rab klapas throughout Croatia and the numerous successes of Rab klapas at numerous festivals throughout the country. As a result of this klapas from the island of Rab open the annual "Rab Musical Evenings" festival and had recently been on a big tour in Croatia.
